From the original story:
Until two years ago, Air India allowed an attendant’s weight to vary within 6.6 pounds (3 kilograms) of a specified limit. It has since put in place strict weight parameters that all attendants must meet. When they don’t, the airline grounds them without pay until they shed the excess pounds.
If airlines are charging overweight passengers extra money, why not penalize flight attendants as well? I frankly have no sympathy for these workers, and it’s not because India has taken most of our tech support jobs 🙂 No, I feel like these well-paid flight attendants should have had some common sense all along… a plane – a fuel-powered FLYING aircraft – cannot carry unlimited weight! These flight attendants should have been focusing on staying lean/trim, with daily exercise regimens to keep the excess weight off.
Let’s be honest, no one wants to be served by fat old air hostesses. It’s not cute. Ideally, flight attendants need to look like this:
Also, the airlines need to accept SOME blame. Everyone knows that fat people (especially wives and mothers) tend to get fatter, while lean people tend to stay relatively lean, even after having multiple kids. The airlines should have ONLY hired AIDS-thin people, with the understanding that their weight WILL go up. But if they are stick-thin to begin with, then even after 10 years and maybe 2 or 3 kids, they’ll still be within acceptable weight limits. Same logic for choosing a wife. It’s just common sense!
I am not politically correct. I keep things real but am I just being a rude bastard regarding this topic? What do you guys think about all this? Sound off below.
